Playing With A Ball

LISTEN TO PLAYING WITH A BALL THEN EXPLORE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES TOGETHER:

MAKING

Let's play mindfully with a ball.

  • Find a ball or round object in your house to use - stand face to face and put the ball in between your tummies (grown up kneeling down)

  • Can you move around keeping the ball in place? How does it feel to be connected by a ball?

  • Now try it back to back - is that easier or harder? Can you try chin to chin or cheek to cheek? Do you need a different sized ball for that?

  • Now lie down on the floor and listen to the song again - can you balance the ball on your tummy for the whole song? Try doing it with your eyes closed.

MINDFUL

Let's make shapes on each other's backs!

  • Find a quiet comfy spot to sit together in your house. Take turns drawing with your finger, different shapes on each other's back. Can you guess what shape is being drawn?

  • Now close your eyes and try the same thing on the palm of each other's hand. Does it feel tickly?

  • How about on the bottom of your foot. How many shapes can you guess?

MOVEMENT

Let’s play with a ball!

  • Collect together any balls as you have in your house. Tennis ball, soccer balls, marbles, round fruit, round toys - anything round is great

  • Sit opposite each other on the floor with your legs in a V shape

  • Spend time rolling each ball back and forward Can you bounce it to each other? Can you throw and catch it?

  • Try moving a ball around your body.

  • Listen to the song again together and follow the actions of the song

  • Solo play idea - set up target practice with a ball and box/ washing basket, or set up an obstacle course to guide a ball around. *For an extra calming session use a balloon
