Meet Michal Bush

Michal Bush is a mother, songwriter, performer, producer and creator with a deep passion for music that nurtures children’s wellbeing, imagination, and curiosity. Drawing inspiration from her own three daughters, Michal blends heartfelt emotion with playful fun - composing songs that both kids and grown-ups want to sing along to.

Her artistic mission? To make music that’s joyful, uplifting, and educational - built around kindness, creativity, confidence, and connection.

  • Music with Michal began in 2019 following a turning point in Michal Bush’s career. After her Petite Music Box duo partner returned to France, Michal stepped into a new creative chapter as a solo artist.

    What started as informal Facebook livestreams for other parents at home quickly became something much bigger. Broadcasting from her living room, often with her own young children popping in and out, the sessions were relaxed, lively, and real. The mix of music, humour, and everyday family chaos resonated strongly, and a loyal audience grew rapidly.

    In 2020, Michal released her debut children’s album with support from Creative New Zealand. The album established her as a distinctive voice in children’s music, combining playful energy with thoughtful songwriting.

    This was followed by Summer Days, continuing her focus on joyful, family-centred music.

    With further backing from Creative New Zealand, Michal developed the Mindful Music Project, a body of work designed to support connection between parents and children through music, movement, and shared play experiences.

    In 2023, the launch of Michal and Moe marked a significant evolution, with Michal moving more deeply into video production and screen content.

    By 2024, Music with Michal Season 1 saw the formation of Music with Michal Studios, along with the development of a dedicated creative team supporting production, filming, and content development.

    Season 2 is currently in production, continuing to expand the world of Music with Michal across music, storytelling, and screen.

    • 2021 Best Children’s Song for Brave at the NZ Children’s Music Awards (APRA Best Children’s Song) — Brave won this award in 2021.

    • 2021 International Songwriting Competition Winner (Children’s Music) for Brave — Brave placed as a top winner in the Children’s Music category at the International Songwriting Competition in 2021.

    • 2022 Best Children’s Artist (Tūī) at the NZ Children’s Music Awards — Music with Michal won this major award in 2022.

    • 2025 Best Children’s Song (Primary) for Shapes and Colours at the Aotearoa Children’s Music Awards — Shapes and Colours won this award in 2025.

    These awards reflect Michal’s songwriting strength and continuing contribution to children’s music both in Aotearoa and internationally.

    • Can You Make Music – debut album, featuring songs like Brave and Dinosaur Zoo.

    2021

    • Summer Days – second full album released in December 2021.

    • Mindful Music Moments – a collection and project of songs and activities designed to support connection and play.

    2023

    • Michal and Moe – album and collaboration project tied to the series, released October  2023.

    • Happy Holidays (a Christmas themed album/singles released this year according to streaming listings).

    • Have A Musical Day Volume One – released in 2025.

    • Have A Musical Day Volume Two – released August   2025.

    • Michal’s Music Room - set to release on March 6th

    Partnerships and Special Projects

    • Partnership with Black Cat Cruise to create song and book “Hector’s Dolphin”

    • Tonies Partnership – Music with Michal content featured on Tonies platforms in 2025 (associated events celebrating Tonies launch and Have A Musical Day).

    • Netsafe Partnership for live show and online safety project with Hector’s World x Music with Michal – announced in partnership with Netsafe to teach children about online safety through music and performance

    Series and Screen Content

    • Music with Michal YouTube Series – ongoing since 2019, with weekly original songs, sing‑alongs, movement videos and learning content.

    • Michal and Moe (YouTube and Sky TV) – co‑produced screen content and album release in 2023.

    • Michal’s Music Room (RNZ and YouTube) – Music with Michal preschool music series launched in 2026 with episodes available on RNZ and also on YouTube.
