Mama Bird

LISTEN TO MAMA BIRD THEN EXPLORE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES TOGETHER:

MAKING

Let's make a nest!

  • Using blankets, cushions, pillows and toys - make a nest together somewhere cosy in your house.

  • Snuggle together in your nest and have some special time together.

  • Do you have any books to read with birds in them?

  • Could you make up your own story about a bird?

  • Do you need to bring snacks into your nest?

MINDFUL

Put a picnic blanket outside or next to a window.

  • Lie down together looking up at the sky and the world around you and look for birds

  • Every time you see a bird make sure to point and say “manu” to let each other know!

  • Now close your eyes and listen - can you hear the birds?

  • What else can you hear?

  • You could also go for a bird walk around your block, or drive to a nearby forest or park and see how many birds you can see and hear.

MOVEMENT

Let’s move and dance like a bird!

  • I wonder what we could use for wings?

  • Find a space inside or outside to move around in.

  • Play the song again and fly all around together - you may like to pretend to have wings using teatowels, scarves, feathers or paper to flap about.

Extended idea:

Learn these actions together.

  • Kiwi - make a long beak with your arm and snuffle around the ground

  • Seagull - Flap your wings up and down and shout “ca-caw”

  • Swan- Swim around with your arms making breaststroke actions

  • Falcon- stretch your arms out wide and fly around as fast as you can

  • Flamingo - stand on one leg and balance! Now take turns calling out the different bird names and seeing if you can remember the actions. You might like your own actions to some other birds.
