Cats and Dogs

LISTEN TO CATS AND DOGS THEN EXPLORE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES TOGETHER:

MAKING

Let’s use our imagination and pretend we are pets!

  • Make a leash using something from around the house - dressing gown tie, string, ribbon - and tie it softly around your body (not your neck)

  • Take turns taking your “pet” for a walk around the house or garden - remember to make the noises of the type of pet you are pretending to be.

  • Can your pet obey commands?

  • Can your pet do tricks?

  • Does your pet want a bowl of water?

  • Does your pet need their fur groomed?

  • Make sure you give your pet a big cuddle at the end of your playtime.

MINDFUL

Pets are lovely to pat and stroke!

  • What feels like a pet in your house?

  • Take a walk around your house touching and stroking different objects, textures and fabrics.

  • Can you find anything soft like a cat?

  • Can you find anything prickly like a hedgehog or rough like a crocodile skin?

  • Can you find something cold like a frog?

  • Can you find something that reminds you of a dog's tail?

  • How about something slimy like an eel? You might like to explore the textures outside too.

  • When you have had enough of exploring - choose something you found that is cuddly like a pet and listen to the song again while giving it a big soft snuggly cuddle!

MOVEMENT

Let’s go on a treasure hunt for animals!

  • Take a walk around your neighbourhood and count how many cats and dogs you find. Take a pen and paper to keep track.

  • What other animals do you see?
